Equipment

  • 1 Dutch Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup panko bread crumbs
  • or the firecracker sauce
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp Sriracha
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce

Instructions

  • Preparing the Ingredients. With salt and pepper, season the shrimp to taste. In a small bowl, beat the egg. In another small bowl, place the flour. In a third small bowl, add the panko bread crumbs.
  • Spray the Oven rack/basket with cooking oil. Dip the shrimp in the flour, then the egg, and then the bread crumbs. Place the shrimp in the Oven rack/basket. It is okay to stack them. Spray the shrimp with cooking oil. Place the Rack on the middle-shelf of the Dutch oven.
  • Air Frying. Cook for 4 minutes. Open the Dutch oven and flip the shrimp. I recommend flipping individually instead of shaking to keep the breading intact. Cook for extra 4 minutes or until crisp.
  • While the shrimp is cooking, make the firecracker sauce: In a small bowl, combine the sour cream, Sriracha, and sweet chili sauce. Mix well. Serve with the shrimp.

Cooking Tips for Firecracker Shrimp

1. Choose fresh, high-quality shrimp: Opt for fresh shrimp with a firm texture and a mild aroma. Look for shrimp that are properly cleaned and deveined for convenience.

2. Marinate for maximum flavor: To infuse the shrimp with flavor, marinate them for at least 30 minutes or longer. Use a mixture of spices, herbs, sauces, and seasonings like garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sriracha, and honey to create a balance of heat and sweetness.

3. Control the spice level: Adjust the amount of spice according to your preference. If you prefer a milder version, reduce the amount of chili flakes or hot sauce. For those who love a fiery kick, feel free to add extra spices or even some chopped fresh chili peppers.

4. Preheat the pan or grill: Ensure that your cooking surface is preheated to a medium-high heat before adding the shrimp. This will help achieve a nice sear and prevent sticking.

5. Don’t overcook the shrimp: Shrimp cook quickly, so be attentive to avoid overcooking. Overcooked shrimp can become tough and rubbery. Cook them just until they turn pink and opaque, usually 2-3 minutes per side, depending on their size.

6. Baste with marinade: While grilling or pan-searing the shrimp, baste them with the remaining marinade for extra flavor and moisture. Be cautious not to use the marinade that came into contact with raw shrimp to prevent any cross-contamination.

7. Serve immediately: Firecracker Shrimp is best enjoyed immediately after cooking when they are at their peak flavor and texture. Serve them as an appetizer, over rice or noodles, or as part of a vibrant stir-fry.
